Corinthians part company with coach Piccinato after women's draw

Corinthians announced, in the early hours of this Saturday (21), the dismissal of coach Lucas Piccinato from the command of the women's team. The decision was communicated hours after the 2-2 draw with Fluminense Football Club at Neo Química Arena, in the second round of the Brazilian Women's Football Championship.

“Lucas Piccinato leaves the technical command of Corinthians. Sport Club Corinthians Paulista announces the dismissal of Lucas Piccinato from the position of team coach. Corinthians thanks the professionals for their services and wishes them success in their future careers”, Timão published in an official statement.

In addition to Piccinato, assistant Brenno Basso, goalkeeper coach Francisco Rodrigues, and physical trainer Luiz Guilherme Gonçalves are also leaving the club. So far, the board has not decided who will take over the position.

The coach had already started the season under pressure, especially after the runner-up finish in the Paulista Women's Championship against Palmeiras. The team also finished second in the Women's Super Cup, again in a classic against the rival. Internationally, Corinthians was surpassed by Arsenal in extra time in the final of the first Champions Cup, the Women's Club World Cup organized by FIFA.

Piccinato arrived at Parque São Jorge at the beginning of 2024 to replace Arthur Elias, who took over the Brazilian Women's National Team. Since then, he has led the Brabas in 101 matches, achieving 71 victories, 20 draws, and ten losses — a success rate of 76.9%. They scored 240 goals and conceded 80. Brenno Basso also led the team in one match, a 1-0 victory over Palmeiras, in 2024.

During this period, the coach won five titles: the 2024 Super Cup, the 2024 and 2025 Brasileirões, and the 2024 and 2025 Libertadores. The team also finished as runners-up in the 2025 and 2026 Super Cups and the mentioned State Championships. The only competition in which they did not reach the final was the 2025 Copa do Brasil, when Corinthians was eliminated in the quarter-finals by São Paulo.

With the calendar pause due to the FIFA Date, the club will have about three weeks to decide on the new commander. The Brabas have four points in the Brasileirão and will play again on March 13, against Palmeiras, at Arena Barueri, in the third round of the national competition.
