Carlo Ancelotti has included four Corinthians players in Brazil’s preliminary squad for friendlies against Australia and India in the late September to early October FIFA window.
The goalkeeper Hugo Souza, right-back Matheuzinho and midfielders André and Breno Bidon are on the long list, from which the final call-ups will be confirmed on Wednesday at 15:00, according to Globo.com.
Of the quartet, only Hugo Souza has previously been involved with the national team. He featured in the closing stages of the last World Cup cycle under Ancelotti, but missed the tournament.
André is recovering from a right thigh muscle injury, and there is an expectation he will play again before the window.
Brazil face Australia twice, on 25 September at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, then on 29 September at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
The squad will then travel to India. On 3 October Brazil meet the hosts at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, the first senior meeting between the nations.
With this the first call-up of the new World Cup cycle, there is scope for fresh faces. Ancelotti said he intends to use the fixtures to assess players, especially younger options, with an eye on renewal over the coming years.
The plan also includes closer alignment with youth teams, with staff tracking under-17 and under-20 talent, as well as names for the next Olympic cycle.
