Corinthians reach LNF last 16 again after three years

On the night of last Friday, the 17th, Corinthians defeated ACBF after drawing the first leg and secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the National Futsal League (LNF). The advancement ended a two-season streak of Timão being eliminated in the round of 16 of the tournament.

The People’s Team won the LNF in 2022, beating Atlântico in the grand final. However, the following year, they were eliminated by Minas after each team won a game and the decision ended in a draw in extra time, giving the classification to the Minas Gerais team. The elimination was considered early.

In 2024, the elimination was even worse. Corinthians didn’t win any game, drawing 3–3 in the first leg, which took place at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium. In the return match, Timão was dominated and ended up thrashed 5–1, saying goodbye to the tournament with a humiliating scoreline.

Now, after an up-and-down campaign in the first phase of the LNF, with an unbeaten streak, Corinthians had the chance to decide at home, which favored their qualification. As mentioned, the first leg ended in a draw and, at Parque São Jorge, Timão won and advanced.

Now, Corinthians await Magnus or Santo André in the quarterfinals of the national tournament. If it’s the Sorocaba team, Corinthians play the first match at home, since they had a worse campaign in the regular season. On the other hand, if the opponent is the ABC Paulista team, the Parque São Jorge club will decide the second game at Wlamir Marques, as they have had a better campaign so far.

Before that, Timão will return to the court next Thursday, October 23, to face Pulo Campinas in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the São Paulo Futsal Championship, at 7 p.m. (Brasília time), away from home.
