Corinthians rely on keeper’s record vs Vasco for Sunday win

On the evening of this Sunday (21), at 6pm (Brasília time), Corinthians will visit Vasco at Maracanã for the second leg of the Copa do Brasil final. The match, which closes the 2025 Brazilian football season, marks the chance for the Alvinegro to win their fourth title in the tournament, 16 years after their third championship in 2009. To achieve this, they need to win the match, as the first leg at Neo Química Arena ended in a goalless draw.

And in this fight, the People’s Team counts on the support of an excellent personal record from goalkeeper Hugo Souza against the team from Rio. According to a survey initially conducted by the page Estatísticas Corinthianas on X (formerly Twitter), later updated by Central do Timão, the Alvinegro’s number 1 has never lost to Vasco in his professional career.

Over six seasons, Hugo Souza has faced this Sunday’s opponent on eight occasions, five while still playing for Flamengo and three after transferring to Corinthians. In these eight matches, the goalkeeper helped his teams win seven times, drawing only once – precisely the first leg of the current final.

If Hugo Souza’s high point rate against the team from Rio (91.7%) results in another victory this Sunday at Maracanã, Corinthians will win their fourth Copa do Brasil title, which would be their second trophy of the season after winning the Campeonato Paulista in March against Palmeiras.
