According to Meu Timao, Memphis Depay posted an image from his private jet in Rotterdam, signalling he is heading to São Paulo to renew his Corinthians contract. The Dutch forward is expected to extend his deal until mid 2028.
Cuiabá president Cristiano Dresch used the saga to criticise Corinthians, accusing the club of behaving as if it had no debts and of failing to pay. The Parque São Jorge side currently have three transfer bans nearing R$ 22 million, alongside overall liabilities of more than R$ three billion.
Fernando Diniz struck a cautious tone on Yuri Alberto’s fitness after the Copa do Brasil defeat to Internacional. The head coach declined to set a return date for the forward, who has a hamstring injury to the back of his thigh.
On Monday night the club’s Deliberative Council held its first extraordinary session to vote on possible expulsions, and two councillors were removed from the membership. Manoel Ramos Evangelista, known as Mané da Carne, and Marcelo Mariano, Marcelinho, were expelled.
The Dutchman’s absence from a decision prompted strong criticism from former player and pundit Neto, an idol at the club. He labelled the president and the football executive incompetent.
After the defeat in Porto Alegre, Hugo Souza assessed the opposition’s approach, avoided a row over the officials and said he remains hopeful of progressing in Itaquera. In the women’s game, Corinthians beat Flamengo 1-0 on Monday night, with substitute forward Rhaizza helping to protect the lead after coming on. The Brabas ended round 14 of the Campeonato Brasileiro Feminino in first place.
