Corinthians bid to end a 14-year wait for a Copa Libertadores semi-final when they face Independiente of Argentina on Wednesday at Neo Química Arena at 21:30.

In Meu Timao’s reporting, the club's record in quarter-final second legs is set out. Corinthians have played five such matches, winning four but progressing only twice.

The first of those wins came in 1996, 1-0 at Grêmio on 24 May, yet they went out after losing the first leg 3-0. In 1999 they beat Palmeiras 2-0 on 12 May, took it to penalties after a 2-0 defeat in the first leg, and were eliminated in the shootout.

A year later, on 23 May 2000, they beat Atlético Mineiro 2-1 to advance after a 1-1 first leg. In 2012 they saw off Vasco da Gama 1-0 at the Pacaembu on 23 May following a goalless first leg, booking a semi-final spot and setting up their title charge.

The only defeat in this sample came in 2022, a 1-0 loss to Flamengo at the Maracanã on 9 August, which followed a 2-0 reverse in São Paulo. Fernando Diniz's side now aim to reach the last four again against the Argentine visitors.
