Corinthians set to match longest away run in nearly seven years

On the evening of last Sunday (22), Corinthians faced Portuguesa at the Canindé Stadium, in the quarterfinals of the Campeonato Paulista. After a 1-1 draw in regular time, Timão secured a spot in the semifinals by winning the penalty shootout 8-7.

With this qualification, the alvinegra team will face Novorizontino in the next stage of the State Championship, once again away from the Neo Química Arena. This sequence consolidates the club’s longest streak of away matches in almost seven years.

Corinthians has already played three consecutive away games this season – São Bernardo, Athletico-PR, and Portuguesa, a number that will increase to five, considering the Paulista semifinal and the match against Cruzeiro, scheduled for Wednesday, for the Brazilian Série A, even before the state final.

The last time the team experienced a similar streak was in 2019, between May 30 and July 7. During that period, Corinthians started the marathon in the Copa Sudamericana, drawing 2-2 away against Deportivo Lara. Next, they faced Flamengo in the Copa do Brasil, losing 1-0. In the Brasileiro, they drew 0-0 with Cruzeiro and lost 1-0 to Santos.

Taking advantage of the national calendar break for the Copa América, Timão also played three friendlies away from Itaquera. In Ribeirão Preto, they were beaten 2-1 by Botafogo. Then, they beat Vila Nova 2-1 in Goiânia. Finally, in Maringá, they were defeated 2-1 by Londrina.

Even if they advance to the State final against São Paulo and play the second match as the home team, the current away streak in 2026 will not surpass six consecutive away games, a number that would inevitably end in the decisive match of the final itself.
