On Thursday, Corinthians settled all outstanding prize payments linked to their Copa do Brasil and Supercopa do Brasil triumphs. Football director Marcelo Paz said the bonuses had been paid to players, coaching staff and club employees.
Both trophies came against Rio opposition, the first sealed at the Maracanã on 21 December last year. After a goalless draw at Neo Química Arena, Corinthians beat Vasco da Gama with goals from Yuri Alberto and Memphis Depay, earning their fourth national cup and R$ 77 million.
That success booked a Supercopa meeting with Brasileirão winners Flamengo. At Mané Garrincha on the first of February, Gabriel Paulista and Yuri Alberto scored in the win, bringing in a further R$ 12 million.
In total the two titles generated about R$ 89 million. Under a pre-agreed arrangement, 30%, roughly R$ 26 million, was earmarked for the groups mentioned, to be paid in three instalments. The instalments had no fixed dates and were tied to cash flow, and the 30% was calculated on net amounts after tax.
The Parque São Jorge side now turn to a Paulista quarter-final. On Sunday they face Portuguesa at Canindé at 20:00, with the winner reaching the semi-finals.
