On Saturday Corinthians travelled to Paraná to face Umuarama in the Liga Nacional de Futsal and lost 1-0, leaving them close to the relegation picture.

They had beaten Tubarão Futsal 3-1 in the 10th round, a brief respite that nudged them into the play-off places, but this setback has renewed concern. According to Meu Timao, the defeat drags Timão back into trouble.

With two wins from 11 rounds, Corinthians sit 13th on eight points. They are level with São José in 14th and one ahead of Marreco and Santo André, who are bottom.

São José and Marreco have already played this round so cannot affect Corinthians’ position. Santo André still play on Monday and, if they beat Joinville, would move above Corinthians, leaving them 14th, the relegation play-off spot.

The LNF has introduced new rules this season. The sides in 15th and 16th go down automatically, while 14th face a two-legged tie against the third-placed team from LNF Silver, the equivalent of Série B of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Corinthians host Minas on Friday 10 at 19:30 at Ginásio Wlamir Marques in Fazendinha in the 12th round. Victory would help them pull clear of immediate danger.
