Corinthians were beaten 2-1 by Chapecoense at Neo Química Arena on Sunday, a round 26 defeat that extended their slump to four straight losses in the Brasileirão.

It is their first run of four consecutive league defeats since 2007, the campaign that ended in the club's only relegation.

Fernando Diniz's side began this sequence with a 2-1 loss to Cruzeiro on 16 August in Itaquera, then fell 2-1 to Coritiba on 23 August at Couto Pereira.

A week later they were beaten 1-0 at home by Santos, before Chapecoense completed the quartet. Three of the four defeats came at home.

In 2007, Corinthians lost 1-0 to Paraná, Botafogo and Palmeiras in succession, then 2-1 to Sport at Pacaembu in Nelsinho Baptista's debut.

The result also ended an unbeaten home record against Chapecoense at the Neo Química Arena, where Corinthians had registered four wins and four draws.

Attention now turns to the Copa Libertadores, with an away first leg of the quarter-finals against Estudiantes in Argentina on Wednesday at 21:30.
