Corinthians beat Grêmio 2-0 on Friday at Estádio Francisco Novelletto to retain top spot in the Brasileirão Feminino after round nine, on 22 points and two clear of São Paulo.

São Paulo moved into second with 20 after beating Flamengo 2-1 on Monday, Palmeiras drew 0-0 with Bahia to reach 18, and Internacional are fourth on 17. Meu Timao notes that only the top eight advance to the quarter-finals, the best campaign brings home advantage, and regular-season points keep counting in the knockout phase.

Bahia are fifth on 16, with Flamengo, Fluminense and Ferroviária all on 15 in sixth to eighth. With the standings as they are, Corinthians would meet Ferroviária in the quarter-finals.

Red Bull Bragantino and Cruzeiro sit ninth and tenth on 14, followed by Santos on 11 and Grêmio on 10. Atlético-MG and Mixto have nine, Juventude and Botafogo five. América-MG on three and Vitória on two occupy the relegation places.

Corinthians face São Paulo on Monday at 21:30 at Fazendinha in a direct contest for the league lead. Before that, they meet on Thursday at 21:30 at the same venue in the opening round of the Paulista Feminino.
