Corinthians striker could become club’s top scorer in matches against Vasco

On the evening of this Sunday (21), at 6 PM (Brasília time), Corinthians visits Vasco at Maracanã for the second leg of the Copa do Brasil final. The match, which concludes the Brazilian football season in 2025, marks the chance for the Alvinegro to secure its fourth title in the tournament, 16 years after their third championship in 2009. To achieve this, they need to win the match, as the first leg at Neo Química Arena ended in a goalless draw.

This is yet another decision involving two of Brazil's greatest teams, which in the past has been for other very important football titles, such as the FIFA Club World Cup in 2000, as well as other knockout competitions in editions of the Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores. But who are the individual highlights of Timão in these contests?

In a survey first published by the portal Meu Timão, the list of Corinthians' top scorers in matches against Vasco was compiled. Among the leaders of the ranking, one name is quite current and well-known to the Fiel: the Paraguayan Ángel Romero, who has scored five goals in eight matches against the Rio team and has the chance to lead the list alone if he plays this Sunday and scores at least once.

Of the other three Corinthians players who also have five goals, two achieved the feat in fewer matches than Romero: midfielder Válber, who needed only two matches in 1993 to score five times against Vasco, and forward Nardo, who played for Corinthians between 1950 and 1955 and scored the same number of goals in five matches. The other player is Marcelinho, who played for the People's Team in three stints between 1994 and 2006 and faced the Rio team 11 times to reach the mark.

Following this, the survey lists six Corinthians players who scored four goals in matches against Vasco. They are Rafael Moura (in four matches), Viola (five matches), Baltazar (seven matches), Rivellino (eight matches), Jô (eight matches), and De Maria (nine matches). Two of Romero's current teammates have two goals against Vasco and could join this list if they score twice this Sunday: midfielder Garro and forward Yuri Alberto.
