Corinthians have been hit with a new debt lawsuit seeking around R$ nine million.
Filed by SC & PB Consultoria Assessoria Esportiva, it claims R$ 9,035,322.35 plus legal fees, 12% annual interest and costs.
Court documents say a November 2023 deal set two instalments of R$ 2.5 million and 36 of R$ 40,000 to settle older debts, but only one instalment of under R$ 40,000 is said to have been paid.
The sums relate to an intermediary fee for signing midfielder Fellipe Bastos in 2017, and an image rights item labelled 'Rodrigo Souza' dated 27 August 2018, even though the only Rodrigo Souza to play for the club was Souza, known as Caveirão, from 2009 to 2011.
The claim is not yet in the club's Regime de Centralização de Execuções, which organises up to R$ 700 million of debts, and as the credit predates August 2024 it should be added if the case reaches enforcement.
Corinthians have not been formally notified and have not commented. Former president Duilio Monteiro Alves said: "During my tenure we signed several agreements to reschedule outstanding commitments. Anyone or any institution with debts, and Corinthians already had many when I took office, has the right to do that. Since then Corinthians have had two presidents and many legal directors. There is no way to remember this after three years, nor to know whether anything was done after my tenure." He said this in a note to ESPN Brasil.
