According to UOL, Corinthians and Portuguesa will split the ticket allocation evenly, 7,500 each, for their Campeonato Paulista quarter-final at Canindé at 20:30 next Sunday.
The arrangement evokes an older era in São Paulo state football. Equal shares were common until the early 2000s, then away allocations shrank and many big derbies became single-fan affairs, including clashes among Corinthians, São Paulo, Santos and Palmeiras, and between Ponte Preta and Guarani.
Authorities do not place meetings with Portuguesa in the same risk bracket, which has allowed this move. The club was long considered the state's fifth force.
Behind the scenes, Corinthians’ board backed staging the tie at Canindé. Given the good relationship between the clubs, joint promotional activity is expected.
Of their 7,500, Corinthians have already purchased around 7,000 to distribute to supporters. The club had hoped for 10,000, matching the allocation given to Palmeiras for Portuguesa’s opening match in the state campaign, but that request was not met.
Official confirmation of the split is expected on Tuesday. Tickets are expected to cost about R$ 160.
