TMC reports that 17-year-old centre-back Iago Machado is expected to be included in Corinthians’ squad for Sunday’s visit of Internacional at Neo Química Arena in the 10th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

He is set to start on the bench, which would be his first involvement at senior level. The opening comes amid defensive issues for coach Dorival Júnior, with João Pedro Tchoca unavailable and Gabriel Paulista a doubt after feeling discomfort.

Machado has intermittently trained with the first team since January, initially after the Copa São Paulo, where he was considered the youth side’s best player. Born in São Bernardo in the ABC Paulista region, he joined Corinthians as a child in futsal before settling as a defender on the pitch.

Part of the 2009 generation, he emerged as a key academy performer in 2025, playing for the Under-17s and finishing as the side’s third-highest scorer with nine goals.

He also shone at the Torneio da Andaluzia last season, performances that prompted a contract addendum on his return to Brazil, including release clauses of R$ 66 million domestically, the highest among academy players, and €100 million for overseas clubs. His current deal runs until 16 April 2028, and his age keeps him eligible for the Copinha through 2030.
