Corinthians to pay R$700,000 to striker after poor youth stint, appeal possible

After terminating his contract with Corinthians in court at the end of June, the forward Franco Delgado won a legal dispute against the Alvinegro, which was ordered to pay R$ 700 related to labor funds. The Alvinegro can appeal the decision, published in the first instance. The information was initially published by ge.globo.

In the middle of this year, the Uruguayan, hired for the Corinthians Under-20 team in March 2024, managed to terminate his contract with the club in court, claiming non-payment of FGTS (Severance Indemnity Fund for Employees). At the time, he also requested the payment of R$ 604,036.47, referring to what he should receive until the end of his contract with Corinthians, which would end in December 2027.

It is worth noting that the General Sports Law (14.597/2023) states that athletes can request unilateral termination of a contract if they have not been paid for two months, and can also demand the receipt of corresponding amounts until the end of their agreement. Furthermore, according to the report, the athlete's lawyer, Filipe Rino, estimates that the amount Corinthians has to pay is R$ 706,498.61.

The player was one of the 87 signings for the Corinthians youth categories – considering Under-17 and 20 – during the Augusto Melo administration (January 2024 to May 2025). The department director at the time had stated that the Alvinegro had not spent to bring the athlete. However, later, Meu Timão learned that Corinthians used a credit it had with FIFA of 115 thousand dollars (R$ 625 thousand) to acquire him.

Signed in March 2024, Franco Delgado did not have a standout trajectory in the Corinthians youth categories. Initially, he received playing time with Danilo and Raphael Laruccia, but with the arrival of Orlando Ribeiro, in the early days of September last year, he was no longer used – he was not on the roster for the Copinha 2025.

He even moved down to the intermediate category, Under-18, where he also had no opportunities. In total, there were only 13 games for Timãozinho and two goals scored. His last match took place in August 2024, in a 5-0 defeat to Athletico-PR in the Brazilian Under-20 Championship.

A month after leaving Corinthians, the Uruguayan was announced at Cerro Largo, in his home country.
