Corinthians turn down Turkish club’s bid for Yuri Alberto

Corinthians has rejected an offer from Fenerbahçe, Turkey, for the signing of striker Yuri Alberto. According to information gathered by Central do Timão, the offer consisted of 15 million euros guaranteed (R$ 93.4 million) and another three million euros (R$ 18.7 million) in performance bonuses, which could total 18 million euros (R$ 112 million).

However, the Corinthians board turned down the offer, believing that the amounts on the table are insufficient for what the club considers ideal in a potential sale of the player. It’s worth noting that the Alvinegro owns 50% of the player’s economic rights, with 5% of that share belonging to the player’s agent, André Cury, as per an agreement with the club. The remainder, in turn, belongs to Zenit, Russia.

If the deal had gone through, Corinthians would have received around R$ 56.5 million – R$ 5.6 million of this total would go to agent André Cury. Recently, Corinthians also rejected an offer from Lazio, Italy, of 22 million euros (R$ 137 million). The club from Parque São Jorge, despite facing financial difficulties, is counting on the player for the rest of the season.

Yuri Alberto has a contract with Corinthians until mid-2030, with an international release clause of 100 million euros (over R$ 600 million). In August and December of last year, Roma, also from Italy, signaled with an offer of 28 million euros (R$ 178 million) for the striker, which was also rejected by the Alvinegro.

Since July 2022 at Parque São Jorge, the number 9 has scored 78 goals and provided 22 assists in 212 matches (181 as a starter), with 93 wins, 55 draws, and 64 losses – a 52.5% success rate. In the last season, he was the top scorer for Alvinegro with 19 goals in 58 games and was instrumental in winning the Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil, against Palmeiras and Vasco da Gama respectively, scoring in both finals.

In 2024, he played a decisive role in the team’s surge in the Brasileirão (from the relegation zone to the Pre-Libertadores), scoring 15 goals and becoming the tournament’s top scorer. In total, he scored 31 goals that year, becoming the top scorer in Brazil and earning a spot among the best in the national competition. Yuri Alberto is also the top scorer in the history of Neo Química Arena – inaugurated in 2014 – with 45 goals, and the team’s leading scorer of the 21st century.

Amid speculation, Yuri Alberto remains focused on Corinthians. Next Sunday (1st), at 4pm (Brasília time), Alvinegro will face Flamengo at Estádio Mané Garrincha, in Brasília, in the final of the Supercopa do Brasil.
