Corinthians unbeaten at Canindé this century

On the evening of last Sunday (22), Corinthians faced Portuguesa at the Canindé Stadium in a match valid for the quarterfinals of the Campeonato Paulista and ended in a 1-1 draw in regular time. Vitinho’s goal in stoppage time took the match to a penalty shootout, in which the Alvinegro ended up winning 8-7.

The final result kept Corinthians unbeaten at Canindé throughout this 21st century. In total, the club from Parque São Jorge has played at the venue on 12 occasions during this period, accumulating seven wins and five draws – 24 goals scored and 10 conceded. The success rate is 72.2%. It’s worth noting that, in this period, the Alvinegro also played at the stadium as the home team and in matches that were not necessarily against Portuguesa.

The data was initially released by the page Estatísticas Corinthianas on X, formerly Twitter. In total, Corinthians has played 77 matches at Canindé Stadium, inaugurated in 1956. Since then, the Alvinegro has accumulated the following numbers: 48 wins, 17 draws, and 12 losses – a success rate of 69.7%. In addition, there have been 155 goals scored and 74 conceded.

Considering only matches against Portuguesa at this venue, the numbers are also positive. In 18 games, there have been nine wins, three draws, and six losses, with 33 goals scored and 25 conceded – a success rate of 55.56%. Previously, the last match Corinthians played at the venue was in 2014, when they beat Cruzeiro 1-0 in the first round of that year’s Brasileirão, with a goal by striker Paolo Guerrero.

Corinthians will now return to the pitch next Wednesday (25), at 8:00 p.m. (Brasília time), when they will face Cruzeiro at the Mineirão Stadium, for the fourth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. At this moment, Dorival Júnior’s team occupies fifth place in the national tournament with six points.
