Corinthians’ women used a Saturday off in London to watch Arsenal and brother club Corinthian-Casuals while preparing for Fifa’s Copa das Campeãs, the inaugural Women’s Club World Cup, according to Meu Timao.

The day started at Kingsmeadow in Kingston upon Thames, where Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-0 in the Women’s Super League thanks to Bethany Mead and Mariona Caldentey.

Arsenal, also in the Copa das Campeãs, will face AS FAR of Morocco in the semi-final. If they advance, they could meet Corinthians in a potential final. Corinthians play Gotham FC of the United States on Wednesday 28 January at 9.30am Brasília time at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Around lunchtime, another group went to King George’s Fields in Totteridge, Barnet, to see Corinthian-Casuals draw 2-2 with Abbey Rangers in the Combined Counties League South. The club is seen as Corinthians’ brother club and is preparing special support for the Brabas during the tournament.

At that match, the players were welcomed by Fiel Londres, Corinthians fans in the capital, and posed for photos on arrival. At half-time, they stepped onto the pitch for further pictures with the home team.

The Copa das Campeãs marks a landmark for the women’s game. Champions receive US$ 2.3 million, about R$ 12.1 million. The runners-up get US$ 1 million, R$ 5.2 million, and eliminated semi-finalists earn US$ 200,000, R$ 1 million.
