André was sent off for an obscene gesture during the first half of Corinthians v Palmeiras at Neo Química Arena on Sunday, in the Campeonato Brasileiro. The dismissal came in the 35th minute.

According to Globo.com, the incident followed a foul by Andreas Pereira in midfield. As he rose, the Corinthians midfielder put his hand on his groin, prompting angry appeals from Palmeiras players for the officials to act.

VAR Daniel Nobre Bins advised referee Flávio Rodrigues de Souza to review the footage. After checking the monitor, the referee ruled the gesture was intentional obscenity and showed a red card.

The episode echoed a previous Corinthians sending-off. In the 3-1 defeat to Fluminense on 1 April, Allan was dismissed for holding his genital area towards opponents, with VAR also recommending the decision.

Allan was fined by the club a few days later. These remain Corinthians’ only expulsions in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
