Corinthians vice-president apologises after row with fans

The vice-president of Corinthians, Armando Mendonça, published an apology to the fans after getting involved in arguments with supporters on social media on the 25th. In his statement, the executive acknowledged his mistakes, mentioned the emotional distress caused by a family loss, and stated that such behavior would not happen again.

“Dear Corinthians fans, I would like to address you to sincerely apologize for the posts I made on Instagram on Christmas Day. I was in a moment of extreme fragility due to the loss of a child in the family, the day before, and I was not able to control my emotions. I was wrong. I was wrong for offending @andredjp81. And I was wrong for saying that ‘I gave a Copa do Brasil title’ to Corinthians,” the executive began.

“I do not see myself as the protagonist of anything. Titles are collective achievements. They are born from the joint work of everyone: staff, professionals, technical committee, athletes, and above all, the fans, who support the club every day. I deeply regret and am not proud of my attitude, which I promise will not be repeated. I also apologize to all the other fans who felt offended by what I wrote,” he added.

The controversy began after Armando Mendonça responded to comments made by fans on a post by the executive himself. Amid the interactions, the vice-president hit back at criticism, linked his administration to the Copa do Brasil title, and used expressions such as “and let the thieves stay? No! Never,” statements that quickly spread and began circulating on widely followed social media profiles.

On the same date, Central do Timão exclusively reported that the club’s Ethics and Discipline Committee, in light of the episode’s repercussions, decided to initiate a preliminary procedure of an investigative nature, aiming to clarify the content, context, and institutional scope of the vice-president’s statements. Internally, the prevailing understanding is that statements of this nature, when made by someone in a leadership position, impose an objective duty of institutional clarification.

In his retraction, Armando Mendonça also took the opportunity to congratulate the new football executive Marcelo Paz, announced by Corinthians on the afternoon of Saturday (27). In his message, the vice-president wished the executive success in his new challenge and projected a 2026 marked by achievements and positive moments for the club.
