Corinthians vice-president Armando Mendonça travelled with the squad to Porto Alegre for Sunday’s Copa do Brasil round of 16 first leg against Internacional at Beira-Rio, kick-off 19:30 Brasília time.
He had been on leave since 8 June and officially returned to his post on 7 July. According to Globo.com, this was his first trip with the delegation since resuming duties.
During his absence, a São Paulo court accepted a complaint from the Public Prosecutor’s Office and made him a defendant in a case concerning the management of Nike sports materials.
He faces charges of aggravated misappropriation on a continuing basis, attempted aggravated misappropriation on a continuing basis, qualified theft for abuse of trust, and coercion during the proceedings.
The complaint alleges he appropriated 131 Nike items, tried to obtain a further 19 special shirts with an NFL patch, and kept eight from that commemorative run. Prosecutors also accuse him of threatening two witnesses.
The case was filed using evidence gathered by the Civil Police inquiry. Lead investigator Cesar Saad concluded no crime had occurred, but prosecutors disagreed, lodged the complaint, and the court accepted it.
