Corinthians enter a pivotal week balancing league momentum with knockout jeopardy as fixtures pile up and resources thin.
According to Globo.com, they visit Cruzeiro at the Mineirão on Wednesday at 20:00 seeking a third straight Brasileirão win, then travel to Novorizontino at the weekend for the Paulistão semi-final, with the date still to be set.
With a lean squad, Dorival Júnior conceded he has not set a clear priority between competitions. He said the choice is not easy and that while they would like to fight for the league title if they had the options and a complete squad, recovery time is currently very short.
Against Portuguesa, Matheus Pereira and Yuri Alberto were absent with left hamstring injuries, while Kaio César is treating a right thigh muscle problem. The staff are also monitoring Matheus Bidu’s workload and Memphis Depay, who has dealt with physical issues since pre-season.
Dorival added that Corinthians may have been the side that played most in the early part of the year. He said he could not recall a free week and that they are doing everything possible to field the best team available.
Corinthians sit fifth in the Brasileirão, one point behind leaders Palmeiras. They have already won the Supercopa Rei over Flamengo this season, are three games from the Paulistão final, and see the Estadual as a chance to sustain form.
