Corinthians win four in a row in NBB, first time since last season

Even with the early elimination from the Campeonato Paulista, Corinthians managed to stay focused and is enjoying a good phase in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). The team led by Jece Leite is on a streak of four consecutive wins, something that hadn’t happened since the final stretch of last season.

In their most recent games, the People’s Team came out victorious against Botafogo-RJ, Fortaleza Basquete Cearense, Unifacisa, and São José Basketball. Two of these were at home and two away, showing the strength of the team regardless of the venue. In the competition, they have only suffered two defeats so far, to Minas and Flamengo, last year’s semifinalists.

As mentioned, Corinthians hadn’t won four straight games in the competition since the final stretch of last season, including games from the first phase and the playoffs. Led by Elinho on the court, Timão won the last three rounds, against Unifacisa, Caxias do Sul, and União Corinthians.

The first playoff game was precisely against the last opponent of the regular season. At Wlamir Marques, the People’s Team won again and started the playoffs with a positive result, as well as achieving their fourth consecutive win. In the second game, however, they were defeated, ending the streak and tying the best-of-five series.

Now, the black-and-white focus turns to the South American Basketball League. After qualifying in an exciting and close fashion, Corinthians begins the second phase of the competition with games that will take place in Asunción, Paraguay. The three games will happen at the end of the week: one on Friday, one on Saturday, and one on Sunday. The first matchup will be against Regatas.
