Corinthians women’s winless streak vs rivals at Arena Barueri grows

On the evening of last Monday, Corinthians drew 0-0 with Palmeiras in the 12th round of the Paulista Women's Championship, in a match held at Arena Barueri. The result maintained the Brabas' good performance average at the stadium but also highlighted a curious fact: when the opponent is a traditional rival, the performance drops drastically.

Corinthians' overall record at Arena Barueri is overwhelmingly positive. In 29 matches, the team achieved 22 victories, five draws, and suffered only two defeats, with 106 goals scored, an impressive average of 3.66 per game, and only 16 conceded (0.55 per match). The total performance rate reaches 81.61%.

However, the performance changes completely in classics against Palmeiras, São Paulo, and Santos. Since the resumption of women's football at the club in 2016, Corinthians has never beaten a state rival playing in Barueri. There have been five confrontations, with three draws and two defeats, including the 3-0 defeat against São Paulo in the 2022 Paulistão, which represents only a 20% performance rate in these duels.

There is, however, an exception among the major opponents: against Ferroviária, considered one of the biggest rivals in Brazilian women's football, Corinthians has a significant advantage in Barueri, with four wins and one draw.

Arena Barueri played an important role in the recent history of the Brabas. In 2017, the stadium was even used as the team's main home, hosting 20 matches that year. Over time, the club began to play its games predominantly at Fazendinha, using Barueri only on specific occasions.

Before last Monday's classic, the last time Corinthians played at Arena Barueri was in May 2023, when they thrashed SKA Brasil 12-0, also in the Paulista. In recent years, the stadium has come under the management of a company linked to Palmeiras' president Leila Pereira, making the location even more symbolic in the clashes between the clubs.
