LOS ANGELESCosta Rica drew nil-nil with Brazil in Group D of the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America on Monday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Patrick Sequeira had three crucial saves on the day to come away with the clean sheet. The first stop came in the 24’ to deny Raphinha in the box.

Haxzel Quiros delivered a timely tackle in the 60’ to deny Rodrygo inside the box.

Lucas Paqueta hit a rocket from distance in the 63’ but was denied by the woodwork.

Alvaro Zamora had a look towards goal in the 68’ as Costa Rica looked to get on the board themselves.

Patrick Sequeira delivered a timely save in the 73’ to keep the score level.

Sequeira delivered another important save in the 79’ to deny a strike from Bruno Guimarães.

Guimarães had an off-target attempt in the 90’+1 as Orlando Galo closed in with the pressure.

Costa Rica will retake the field on Friday against Colombia in Glendale, Arizona. Paraguay and Brazil will conclude the group’s second matchday in Las Vegas after that encounter.

  1. Costa Rica is the third CONCACAF team to keep a clean sheet against Brazil in a CONMEBOL Copa America match, following Mexico (2001 and 2007) and Honduras (2001).
  2. Jeyland Mitchell (19 years and 270 days old) is the youngest player to start for a CONCACAF team in the CONMEBOL Copa America since Joel Campbell, also a member of the current Costa Rica squad, did so in 2011 against Argentina at 19 years and 15 days old.
  3. Joel Campbell played his seventh CONMEBOL Copa America match, the most for any player in the current Costa Rica squad.
