Patrick Sequeira stood out with three saves as the goalkeeper and his defense took a clean sheet. Sequeira also took man of the match honors against Brazil and was also one of five Concacaf players to star in the team of the week for the first round of group stage matches.

Haxzel Quiros, Jeyland Mitchell and Orlando Galo also stood out defensively with individual performances. Costa Rica players combined for 29 steals to Brazil’s 28 overall.

Mitchell became the youngest player to start for a Concacaf team in the CONMEBOL Copa America since Joel Campbell, a member of the current Costa Rica squad, did so in the 2011 edition.

Campbell himself earned a new milestone by playing in his seventh CONMEBOL Copa America match, the most for any player in the current Costa Rica squad.

Colombia earned a 2-1 victory over Paraguay and, as a result, leads the group with three points. Midfielders James Rodriguez and Jefferson Lerma were named to the team of the week, with Rodriguez taking the player of the match week honors.

Rodriguez assisted both of the Colombia goals scored by Daniel Muñoz and Lerma. Goalkeeper Camilo Vargas had two saves against Paraguay.
