Eduardo Coudet denied any contact with River Plate after Alavés lost 2-0 at Levante, only for his agent, Christian Bragarnik, to confirm a first call from club president Stéfano Di Carlo. The Alavés coach has been linked as Marcelo Gallardo’s successor in Núñez.
At the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia, Alavés started with Nahuel Tenaglia and Lucas Boyé, and later introduced Facundo Garcés. They impressed before the break but failed to score, then a second yellow for Victor Parada left them with 10. Levante, led by Argentine Matías Moreno, capitalised as Carlos Espí struck twice, at 44 minutes of the second half and in the seventh minute of added time.
Post-match, Coudet insisted he had not been approached. He said that if River had contacted him he would say so, adding he would first sit down with Alavés if that scenario arose, but that it does not exist, and he hoped for a quick resolution.
Before kick-off, Alavés president Alfonso Fernández de Trocóniz said the club had received no approach and pledged full backing for Coudet. He noted the sporting structure was in place should circumstances change.
Bragarnik later said, “I spoke with Di Carlo and he asked about Coudet, about his situation”, he told ESPN. River will seek their first direct contact with Coudet on Saturday, with Di Carlo and manager Enzo Francescoli expected to lead talks. Within the club there is calm, no rush to appoint, and Marcelo Escudero remains interim.
