Enzo Maresca has stated he needs Reece James and hinted the England international could be ready to start three games in a week.

James has been managed carefully since returning from hamstring surgery, but it’s certainly paid off with the Chelsea captain now injury free for over a year.

The 26-year-old has put in some impressive performances this season at both right back and in midfield, where he’s played a number of games this season.

Enzo Maresca on Reece James

James is so important to Chelsea, and it’s great to see him back operating near his best, and it shouldn’t be long until he’s ready to play even more often if required.

Maresca seemed to say earlier this season James was ready to play three games a week, but when asked before the Everton game if that was case he didn’t give much away.

“Could be, yes,” he said as quoted on X.com.

“We need Reece, not only in this game, but in all games.”

James has rightly been praised for his form this season, and Chelsea are clearly a better team when he’s in the side.

Chelsea are blessed that they also have Malo Gusto, who’s a more than capable deputy if they want to rest James or he moves into midfield.

Cole Palmer still feeling pain in his groin

Whilst James is nearly ready to start three games a week, the same can’t be said for Cole Palmer, who’s only just returned from over two months out with a groin injury.

Palmer featured against both Leeds and Bournemouth, but was left out of the trip to Atalanta as part of his recovery plan.

The England international is fit and available for Saturday’s huge game against Everton, but worryingly Maresca has admitted Palmer is still feeling pain in his groin.
