The R's secured Championship survival after an excellent second half of the season under Marti Cifuentes, and it seems that preparations are already underway for a summer rebuild, with Berry reportedly one player on their radar.

Berry is out of contract at Kenilworth Road this summer, and he could be available on a free transfer, but the Hoops face competition for his signature from Watford and MLS side DC United.

The 31-year-old joined Luton from Cambridge United in August 2017, and he has been part of an incredible journey during his time at the club, with the Hatters going from League Two to the Premier League.

Berry has found his minutes limited at times this season, but he has been used more regularly in recent weeks as Rob Edwards' side look to secure top flight survival.

QPR fan pundit reacts to Luke Berry speculation

FLW's QPR fan pundit Louis Moir says Berry could be a shrewd addition for the club, and he believes that with some senior players likely to depart this summer, his experience could be crucial.

"I can see maybe why we're after another midfielder, especially if we don't manage to sign Isaac Hayden on a permanent deal," Louis said.

"I think, to be quite honest, we'd be having to look for another midfielder regardless if he signs or not because I still think that's a position we're probably lacking slightly in terms of depth.

"Obviously you've got Jack Colback who's not getting any younger, Hayden and Joe Hodge who are on loan, Sam Field who has been that mainstay in midfield for a few years now.

"Then you've got players like Andre Dozzell who probably won't be here, so we're going to have to improve that area, and I think Luke Berry could be quite a decent little acquisition, especially if he's available on a free transfer. "He's a tidy little player, and obviously he's done very well at Luton. "He's capable of popping up with a few goals here and there as well, and that would add a lot to our midfield because our midfield has lacked goals in recent years. "I think with his experience of rising up with Luton, getting promoted and even making appearances in the Premier League, he would add a lot of experience. "We're probably going to lose a lot of experienced players as well this summer, so we're going to need to add a mixture of youth and older heads, and he could really be quite an ideal signing actually.

"Luke Berry would be a decent little player, and could fit into our rebuild quite well."

QPR should pursue Luke Berry deal this summer

It is difficult to disagree with Louis that Berry would be a good signing for the R's.

With Isaac Hayden and Joe Hodge's loans expiring, and uncertainty over the futures of the likes of Andre Dozzell, Chris Willock and Ilias Chair, midfield is an area Cifuentes may need to strengthen this summer.

Berry is a player with excellent Championship experience, and having achieved four promotions during his career, he could help to instill a winning mentality in the dressing room.

Watford and DC United are also said to be keen on Berry, but it is tough to see him making the switch to Vicarage Road given the rivalry between the Hornets and Luton, and it remains to be seen whether he would be willing to move to America.

With Luton looking likely to be relegated back to the Championship, and given the fact that Berry has been used more frequently by Edwards in recent weeks, the Hatters could offer him a new deal this summer, but if he does become available, the R's should attempt to bring him to Loftus Road.
