It’s no secret that Jadon Sancho is well-loved by the Borussia Dortmund fanbase. His return on loan for the back half of last season was welcome, and the images of Sancho dancing and singing along with Adele in the BVB locker room is something that will live in my head rent free forever.
Sancho did not perform as illustriously as his prior spell with Dortmund, but it was obvious how strong his connection is to the club, and for that, he’s earned respect. But at the end of last season, he returned to career killers, Manchester United. His price simply seemed to steep for Dortmund to secure a permanent return.
Yet there was no place at Manchester United for Jadon Sancho, so he immediately signed a 1-year loan with Chelsea FC, where the Blues secured an obligation to buy. However, Sky Sports reports that Chelsea are strongly considering reneging on their 25-million pound buy obligation, and could prefer paying a 5-million pound penalty to send Sancho back to Manchester.
Yet this morning, multiple sources report Jadon Sancho has made a formal transfer request to return to Borussia Dortmund. Sancho made a brilliant start in his time at Chelsea, but has struggled, and has now gone almost three months without a goal involvement.
With Sancho’s market value declining, and the potential of Dortmund still being owed money from Manchester United, a permanent transfer for the Englishman seems feasible. Borussia Dortmund lacks much identity this season, and the return of such a prominent familiar face could work wonders both on and off the pitch.
