It was unsurprising that, after just two starts this season, Noah Ohio was allowed to leave Standard Liege on loan this season. Despite the sides struggle for goals, the exciting young Dutch forward was only given his chance to make an impact off the bench. After scoring five league goals and providing four assists during the 2022/2023 season, it feels like a step back in the development of Ohio.
Yet Standard are a club in flux. They are having off field troubles and on the pitch they are struggling, hardly the ideal situation for a young player to develop their game. Now, however, Ohio has found himself in a far better situation. He joins a Hull City side led by Liam Rosenior that sit eighth in the Championship. Despite a strong start to the season, the Yorkshire club have struggled recently, with just two wins in all competitions over the last eight games.
Ohio could well be the striker that helps them get back on track. He is a physical player, who combines speed with strength. He is also a willing runner, something that is needed in a league as competitive as the Championship. Hull are just two points outside of the top six and the chance of competing in the play-offs. If they can help Ohio rediscover the form he had shown during last season, he could well help them to fight it out in the post-season battle for Premier League promotion.
For Standard this could also be a winning situation. If Ohio is able to rediscover his form, there is hope he could return next season and be the main striker at the club. However, if he is a success, it will be interesting to see if Hull try and sign Ohio permanently in the summer.
