A court officer served Gerson with legal papers at Cruzeiro’s team hotel in Rio, as Flamengo seek R$42.7 million over his unilateral exit for Zenit last year.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the citation was delivered as the midfielder prepared to face his former club. The claim concerns image-rights payments he would have earned under his last Flamengo contract, although he opted to sign for Zenit.

Gerson had a deal until 2027. After public demands from his father and agent, Marcão Santos, citing comparatively low wages among starters, Flamengo extended it to 2030, increased his salary and reduced the release clause.

Zenit then paid the reduced amount and secured his release without negotiation. The renewal also inserted an indemnity clause for unilateral termination, setting any payment as equivalent to the remainder of the contract.

Because he departed soon after that renewal, Flamengo are now pursuing almost the entire sum the player would have earned. FGM Sports, run by Marcão Santos, also received the notification.

Gerson is in Rio for Cruzeiro’s match against Flamengo on Wednesday, 11, at 21:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã. The fixture is part of the fifth round of the Brasileirão.
