Real Madrid are on the travels after three successive home games as they meet Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, April 8th, in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash. After falling to defeat against Valencia in La Liga on Saturday, the team will be looking to get back to winning ways this week in England in convincing fashion before next week’s second leg in Spain.
Thibaut Courtois is expected to return for the visitors after three successive games on the sidelines due to a muscular issue but Aurelien Tchouameni will miss the fixture owing to suspension. Andriy Lunin, Dani Carvajal, Dani Ceballos, Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy remain on the sidelines as well due to injuries, so a number of Castilla players have been called up by Carlo Ancelotti to make up numbers in the roster.
That said, here is a look at how Real Madrid might line-up for the game.
Goalkeeper – Thibaut Courtois
Courtois is set to play in goal, replacing Fran Gonzalez in goal from the weekend’s loss to Valencia.
Right Back – Federico Valverde
Off the back of Lucas Vazquez’s poor form, Valverde is expected to feature at right back.
Centre Back – Raul Asencio
Asencio is set to return to the starting eleven after being rested in the Valencia game on Saturday.
Left Back – Fran Garcia
With Mendy ruled out due to an injury, Fran Garcia could start at left back.
Defensive Midfielder – Eduardo Camavinga
Camavinga could be deployed as the defensive midfielder in Tchouameni’s absence.
Right Midfielder – Luka Modric
With Ceballos out and Valverde at right back, Modric might be handed a start in midfield.
Left Midfielder – Jude Bellingham
Bellingham has played superbly of late and will be one of the first names on the team sheet.
Right Winger – Rodrygo Goes
Rodrygo was on the bench in the Valencia match and could replace Brahim Diaz on the right flank.
Striker – Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe has scored four goals in his last four Champions League outings and will look to add to his tally against Arsenal.
Left Winger – Vinicius Junior
Vinicius has to significantly improve his form and will look to do it in the Champions League knockouts, a stage on which he has excelled a number of times.
