According to Globo.com, Philippe Coutinho has informed Vasco that he intends to terminate his contract, with his representatives delivering the message directly to president Pedrinho.

The 33-year-old also called head coach Fernando Diniz to state his intention. Diniz tried to persuade him to rethink, but was unsuccessful, and the decision has been described internally as irreversible.

Vasco's hierarchy were caught by surprise, and the matter was discussed in a meeting on Wednesday. The termination has not yet been signed, and the club and player are likely to make official statements soon.

Vasco had already begun talks to extend the playmaker's deal, which runs only until June. Discussions were under way to keep him at the club at least until the end of the year.

Inside the club, the view is that his decision is not about the working environment, but about the volume of recent criticism. He was booed for the first time at São Januário against Volta Redonda last week, and he received support from Diniz.

People close to both parties add that he enjoys a good relationship with Diniz's staff and the rest of the squad.
