Coventry boss Frank Lampard beats Mikel Arteta to the LMA manager of the year award | OneFootball

Frank Lampard has been named the League Managers Association manager of the year after guiding Coventry City to promotion.

Mikel Arteta was a top contender for the prestigious award after inspiring Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years.

However, the Gunners boss was beaten to the prize by Lampard, who led Coventry to the Championship title this season.

The Sky Blues will play in the top-flight next term for the first time since 2001.

Lampard, who also won the divisional prize at the annual LMA awards, was presented with the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy by England manager Thomas Tuchel.

Ferguson was not in attendance, and Tuchel read out his letter that said: “I have enjoyed watching you (Lampard). Best of luck in the Premier League next season.”

Brentford’s Keith Andrews, Aston Villa’s Unai Emery, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Lincoln City’s Michael Skubala and Bromley’s Andy Woodman were also shortlisted.

Lampard began his managerial career at Derby County in 2018. He led the Rams to the Championship play-off final in 2019, where they eventually lost to Aston Villa.

He was appointed by Chelsea and guided them to fourth place and the FA Cup final in his debut season.

Lampard was dismissed from his position in 2021 but later returned as a caretaker manager.

He also managed Everton and helped them avoid relegation to the Championship.
