The Sky Blues have been a real threat to the top six in recent seasons, but fell short last season as a slow start and a poor end to the campaign saw their top six hopes fade away.

But Mark Robins’ side are more than capable of making the play-offs and being a threat to them, as shown when they reached the second tier final the season before last.

Robins will be looking to do the same again as he desperately tries to get the club into the Premier League.

Coventry will be bidding to have a strong summer of activity, but there may be two situations that will be on Robins’ mind, and here we have taken a look at who they may be...

Ben Sheaf could leave Coventry City

Coventry City have already seen talisman Callum O’Hare leave the club this summer after his contract at the Championship club expired.

Mark Robins will be hoping that is the one and only major departure the club has this summer, but that may not be the case.

Given how well Coventry have done in recent seasons, they have become a club that teams are starting to look at in terms of the players they have at their disposal.

It happened last summer as Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres were picked off by Sheffield United and Sporting Lisbon, respectively, and the same could happen this summer with midfielder Ben Sheaf.

Sheaf was a standout performer for the Sky Blues last season, helping the club reach the FA Cup semi-final and come so close to a play-off finish.

Therefore, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to see that he was attracting transfer interest, with Ipswich Town credited with an interest in the player last month.

It was reported by Alan Nixon at the time that the Tractor Boys could be priced out of a move for Sheaf, as Coventry wanted a considerable amount for the player.

However, it will be something that will worry Robins, because as long as the transfer window is open, interest could emerge in the player.

The 26-year-old did sign a contract extension last year, but with that running only for two more seasons, Coventry could be placed in a situation where they may have to accept an offer, especially one that is too good to turn down, given this could be their best chance of receiving a hefty fee for the player.

Haji Wright could attract transfer interest following debut season exploits

Coventry have become a team that teams from the Premier League and abroad are starting to take notice of as they are unearthing some hidden talents.

That is good news for Coventry, as it means they are doing something right in terms of buying good players, but it is also bad news as it means every transfer window their best players could be the subject of transfer interest.

This has happened to Sheaf already this summer, as just mentioned, and the next player it could happen to at Coventry is Haji Wright.

The Sky Blues only signed the forward last summer from Turkish side Antalyaspor in a club-record £7.7 million deal, and despite it being the American's first time in England and the Championship, Wright really impressed.

The 26-year-old scored 16 goals in 44 league games, with another three notched in the FA Cup as well. Wright really did well in his first season at Coventry, whilst having big shoes to fill after the departure of Gyokeres.

The concern will be that teams from England and abroad may have taken notice of how well Wright did last season and could look to make a move for the player.

The other case being that if Coventry don’t seal promotion to the Premier League in the upcoming campaign, they could see players like Wright depart, as the Sky Blues would probably struggle to retain him if he had another impressive campaign.

The USA international signed a four-year deal when he arrived last summer, so there are still plenty of years to run on his contract, but other factors may have raised doubts in Robins’ mind that they could potentially struggle to keep hold of the player.
