The goalkeeper spent last season with Hull City, but he made just two appearances in the Championship as the team narrowly avoided relegation to League One.

However, he has cemented himself as a key figure at the CBS Arena under Frank Lampard, with the 24-year-old keeping 14 clean sheets from 39 appearances in the second division this season.

The shot-stopper has been an ever-present part of the team as they look to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The Sky Blues lost in the play-off semi-finals in the previous campaign, but are now comfortably sitting at the top of the table with just seven games to go.

Seven wins from their last eight league games has given the club a nine point gap over second place Middlesbrough.

Brighton’s Carl Rushworth stance amid Premier League interest

According to Football Insider, Brighton are braced for Premier League interest for Rushworth in the summer following his impressive performances for Coventry.

It’s believed that a £20 million price tag has been set by the Seagulls, with the club open to his departure due to his current contract situation.

The goalkeeper’s deal will expire in 2027, meaning this summer could effectively be their last opportunity to cash in on the player.

The 24-year-old is not expected to displace Bart Verbruggen as the first-choice goalkeeper in Fabian Hurzeler’s first team squad, leading to speculation over his exit.

However, if the Belgian was sold then it could open the door for Rushworth to remain at the Amex Stadium.

It remains to be seen whether Coventry would be willing to pay £20 million to keep Rushworth at the club beyond this loan spell.

It is also unclear which Premier League sides could compete for the 24-year-old’s signature, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that he will be playing top flight football next season.

It is understood that Rushworth is keen to keep up this level of first team football wherever he is next season.

Coventry are currently first in the Championship table, nine points clear of Middlesbrough and 11 ahead of third and fourth place Ipswich Town and Millwall.

Lampard’s side will return to league action on 3 April following the March international break, as they face Derby County at home in an 8pm kick-off.

Carl Rushworth signing would be good business for Coventry

Coventry will need to be ready to invest in the squad this summer, and the signing of Rushworth could be the first test of their resolve.

A £20 million deal would be a big bet to make, but this is what might need to be done in order to compete in the Premier League next season.

The goalkeeper has been a pretty solid addition, and he is still 24, so there is no doubt that he will continue to improve.

It’s clear that Lampard is a big fan, and owner Doug King should be backing the manager in the summer if he wants to push to keep him at the club.
