Coventry City 3-0 Preston North End as the leaders made it five straight Championship wins at home on Wednesday night.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a low strike from outside the box after a corner. Brandon Thomas-Asante doubled the lead from close range (34.).

A penalty was awarded after Pol Valentín fouled Ephron Mason-Clark (49.). Matt Grimes converted from the spot into the bottom right corner (50.).

Daniel Iversen kept Preston in it with a string of saves, notably denying Romain Esse late on, but Coventry City continued to dictate play.

After the interval, Kaine Hayden, Victor Torp and Esse were introduced together to maintain the tempo (61.). Play was briefly halted for treatment to Odeluga Offiah (79.).

Coventry City registered 25 attempts and eight corners, with 67.9% possession. Preston finished with five attempts.
