The duo debriefed following Tuesday night's 2-1 victory over Portsmouth at Fratton Park
Coventry City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante and goalkeeper Carl Rushworth have sparked an amusing reaction from supporters after the club’s latest post-match debrief video.
The Sky Blues' social media team has been posting behind-the-scenes footage of players ‘debriefing’ after matches - and the latest instalment following Tuesday night's 2-1 victory over Portsmouth at Fratton Park has caught the attention of the fanbase for all the right reasons.
Beating Pompey marked Frank Lampard's side's fifth consecutive win, extending their unbeaten run to 11 matches and keeping them firmly at the top of the Championship table.
The reaction from Coventry supporters on the video has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the deliberate awkwardness and dry humour displayed by the duo.
One fan commented, "These debriefs are slowly becoming Monty Python skits."
Another supporter, Gary, noted he was "Lovin' the 'awkward' debriefs" while Andrew added, "Now this, is fantastic footage. Serious interviews are boring".
It’s not like the video strikes a balance between providing genuine insights into the players’ thoughts on the game either, they’re just having a laugh - which has clearly resonated with the fans.
As for the players in the video,Thomas-Asante has been instrumental in Coventry's remarkable form, scoring both goals in the Portsmouth victory to take his tally to seven goals in 11 appearances this season.
The Ghanaian international has now scored five times in his last three league games, forming a devastating partnership with Haji Wright, who also boasts eight Championship goals so far this campaign.
Rushworth, meanwhile, has been equally impressive between the sticks. The Brighton loanee broke a club record dating back to 1934 during the Portsmouth match, surpassing Horace Pearson's streak of 608 minutes without conceding.
Yes, they're just short videos after a match, but they do show the team spirit that Frank Lampard has achieved since taking charge last November.
The former Derby County and Chelsea manager inherited a side sitting 17th in the Championship, perhaps mired in negativity following the controversial sacking of Mark Robins - their former goalkeeper Steve Ogrizovic said it was a "poor decision."
Less than a year later, Lampard has turned Coventry into arguably one of the most exciting teams in the country, with the Sky Blues boasting the Championship's most dangerous attack with 31 goals.
The fact that Thomas-Asante and Rushworth feel comfortable enough to produce these deliberately awkward interviews shows the confidence within the squad.
Back in August, right-back Milan van Ewijk had a go at a debrief after beating Lampard's former team Derby at Pride Park. Since then, the likes of Victor Torp and Matt Grimes have all featured in them.
Rather than the polished, media-trained responses often seen in post-match interviews - these debriefs offer Sky Blues supporters a glimpse into the personalities behind the players, which definitely keeps the mood positive.
Given that the West Midlands outfit now sit four points clear at the top of the Championship and are showing no signs of slowing down - we could be seeing a lot more of these in the future.
