January signing Frank Onyeka has been praised for his impact on this Coventry City side following both victories, while Jack Rudoni scored his first since the 7-1 victory against QPR in August and followed up with the winner against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Frank Lampard's side are top of the division, with results around them for the likes of Ipswich Town, Millwall, and Middlesbrough also going their way over the weekend and last week for the most part. With Sheffield United ticked off last night, there are just 12 games left.

Cov have been top of the pile for 27 of the 34 matchdays so far. Promotion to the Premier League is not guaranteed, but they are back on track after a run of four wins in 12 league games saw their rivals catch up to them.

Steve Sidwell spoke the night before Coventry's trip to South Yorkshire and also ahead of Tuesday's Championship fixtures on Sky Sports' Gillette Labs Soccer Special show. The retired midfielder is a former teammate of Lampard at Chelsea, and he has one concern for his friend regarding Coventry.

On whether normal service has been resumed at Coventry, he responded: "It looks as though it is, yeah, and that’s what top teams do. They’ve got top players playing with a lot of confidence.

"They had a little blip that was lingering on being caught. And then there was a lot of noise around if they through this away it would be the biggest disgrace in the Championship in recent years.

"But they’re certainly back on form now. The weekend was a relatively easy win for them against West Brom. Huge win for them against Boro the other week. It’s a squad and individuals now playing back to where they should be.

"Onyeka on loan has been superb since he’s been in. Rudoni bringing a little bit of steeliness into that midfield as well. It looks as though they are back to being their best. There’s goals all over the pitch. They’re scoring goals.

"The only thing that worries me or would be a concern is out of possession. In terms of being a little bit weak, not strong enough, not sort of being commanding enough. That would be my only concern.

"But they’re scoring enough goals. It can balance out."

Speaking in response to Sidwell, former Cov centre-forward Morrison added: "Massively, he’s right. When we did the Coventry game on Sky, we spoke with Frank Lampard, and he said how important Onyeka was.

"Because they’re good in midfield with Torp and Grimes. They’re good footballers but can they get around the pitch? Onyeka does that — the horrible bit where he breaks it up and gives it simple. And I think it’s worked brilliantly.

"What Sids makes is a great point — [Milan] van Ewijk and [Jay] Da Silva are great going that way. But when it’s to go this way, I’m not saying they don’t like defending, but they leave the two centre-backs two on two. They’re not the quickest when it’s [Liam] Kitching and [Bobby] Thomas.

"But they’ve got good players now and the biggest plus point I can take from the weekend was Jack Rudoni scoring. He’s been quiet and Lampard said he’s had a lot of injuries this season.

"But if they can get him cooking from now until the end of the season, it’s like a new signing and the goal that he scores is fantastic. [Ephron] Mason-Clark has been good, [Tatsuhiro] Sakamoto, Haji Wright, [Brandon] Thomas-Asante — you were just thinking, 'when is Rudoni going to step up?'

"He steps up with a great finish. There's going to be blips. They have had their blip. On the weekend, as I said, they were the only team who win in and amongst them."
