Sheffield United's chief executive has praised the decision to bring Chris Wilder back to the club.

Sheffield United head into this weekend's Steel City derby against Sheffield Wednesday full of confidence as they continue their hunt for a place in the Championship play-off places, despite an incredibly difficult start to the campaign.

The Blades still have an outside shot of closing the gap to the top six in the coming weeks, and there will be an expectation at Bramall Lane on Sunday that three points will be staying with the red-half of the city, with the Owls clinging on to their second-tier status right now.

While Chris Wilder's side can relegate their neighbours, the job may be done for them already if results go against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, and they would become the quickest side to have been relegated from the Championship in the division's history.

Nevertheless, Sheffield United chief executive, Stephen Bettis, has spoken about several issues at the club right now, and how the ownership is adapting, including one that happened over the summer.

Stephen Bettis explains the key Sheffield United decision that COH Sports got right

Wilder was sacked by the Blades following his side's play-off final defeat to Sunderland last May. However, after Ruben Selles suffered the same fate earlier this season, the 58-year-old was brought back to the club to help turn their campaign around.

Questions were asked when Sheffield United made the original decision to part ways with their legendary boss, and Bettis has spoken out on what COH Sports learned from that mistake. He said (via: Danny Hall): "This has been discussed at length ... the guys acknowledge that they have limited experience and made some mistakes. But the positive, if there is one from it, is that they were open enough to accept they made mistakes and put hands up.

"To do what they did, I don't think many owners would have done that. They realised it wasn't working with Ruben Selles and I don't think many would have gone back to the previous manager. But they were big enough to accept Chris Wilder was the best man for the job and they were big enough to U-turn.

"The lessons they'll learn is that they've got to trust us. It's a new relationship and they are learning to trust us, they're seeing our strengths and weaknesses. And they're embracing them and letting us show them what we can actually do."

Chris Wilder's Sheffield United record is incredible

Wilder has managed the Blades in the Premier League, Championship and League One, and his impact on the club has been sensational. While his decision to leave when the team were destined for top flight relegation was criticised, he has more than made up for it.

The former Middlesbrough manager has racked up an incredible 333 games in charge of Sheffield United so far in his career, and he has won 153 of those, drawing just 60 and losing the other 120. It's an incredibly positive record and is one that has given him all the status that he deserves in S2.

He has two promotions to his name with the Blades, first coming in the 2016/17 campaign when his side made their way up to the Championship from League One, and then two years later the South Yorkshire outfit returned to the Premier League for the first time in over a decade.

While this season has not gone completely to plan, there is still time for Wilder to work his magic and get Sheffield United into the all-important play-off positions.
