After a turbulent May that saw the Columbus Crew struggle to find their footing, June has brought a welcome change in fortune—and perhaps a turning point in their 2025 campaign. With three straight wins, including a gritty 1-0 victory over league leaders Philadelphia Union and a confident 2-1 result against Vancouver Whitecaps, the Crew are showing signs of a team rediscovering its identity and resilience.
May was a month to forget. The Crew failed to win a single match after their May 3rd triumph over Charlotte FC, stumbling through a string of draws and losses, including a humbling 5-1 defeat to Inter Miami. Defensive lapses and inconsistent finishing plagued the team, raising concerns about their trajectory in a competitive Eastern Conference.
But June told a different story.
The Crew kicked off the month with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Vancouver, followed by a commanding 3-1 performance against Atlanta United. Then came the statement victory: a 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Union, the top team in MLS at the time. Mo Farsi’s first-half stoppage-time goal, combined with a disciplined defensive effort, sealed the win and capped off a perfect month.
What’s most encouraging isn’t just the results—it’s the way the Crew are getting them. The defense has tightened up, the midfield is showing more cohesion, and the attack is beginning to click.
Diego Rossi: 9 goals, 2 assists, 8.5 xG, 2.5 xAG — the Crew’s most consistent attacking threat.Jacen Russell-Rowe: 5 goals, 1 assist, 4.4 xG — a reliable secondary scorer.Max Arfsten: 3 goals, 3 assists, 3.1 xG, 4.0 xAG — contributing for the Crew & USMNT.Aziel Jackson: 2 goals, 1 assist in just 703 minutes — efficient and impactful off the bench.Mohamed Farsi: 3 assists, 2.0 xG, 2.5 xAG — a key transitional player and creator from deep.
Goals Scored: 29 (1.61 per game)Goals Conceded: 25 (1.39 per game)xG vs xGA: 29.7 xG vs 24.8 xGA — a positive expected goal differential of +4.9Progressive Passes: Dylan Chambost (155), Max Arfsten (91), Farsi (49)Defensive Work: Sean Zawadzki and Yevhen Cheberko lead in tackles and interceptions
While the Crew still need to improve their consistency in the final third and maintain composure under pressure, the signs are promising. The team is getting results, and more importantly, they’re doing it with a collective effort.
As they head into July with a tough road test against Seattle, Columbus fans have every reason to feel optimistic. The Crew aren’t just winning again—they’re fighting, improving, and turning the corner at just the right time with reinforcements on the horizon.
