For several days now, a wave of nostalgia has swept over Real Madrid. Just the sight of Zinédine Zidane alongside Florentino Pérez was enough to reignite fantasies of a comeback, as the French tactician’s shadow still looms large over the Casa Blanca. Criticism of Xabi Alonso, who has come under fire for a string of questionable decisions, has only fueled this red-hot rumor mill. In response to this frenzy, David Bettoni, Zidane’s trusted assistant during his Madrid years, stepped in to cool tempers on the set of El Chiringuito.

"Zidane never imposed his will; he got along well with every player. Whenever someone was feeling down, he always had something positive to say."

A philosophy built on man-management, which he believes is quite different from Xabi Alonso’s approach. Nevertheless, the former assistant called for patience:

"Xabi Alonso needs to be given time. He’s a different kind of manager. There’s no need to dramatize what happened with Vini. Everything can be resolved inside the dressing room."
