Crisis in Río Cuarto: board gets tough to save club from relegation

The Córdoba club issued an official statement confirming that a group of players was removed from the professional squad. The decision, made by mutual agreement between the club’s leadership and the technical department, comes amid a dreadful spell: the team is bottom of the table and in the direct relegation zone.

Although the names of those involved have not yet been disclosed, TyC Sports was able to learn that some of them are players with extensive experience in Argentina’s top division. In addition, the club reported that from now on those footballers will train separately.

The decision, as they emphasized, was made by the club’s leadership in agreement with the technical department and will be for an indefinite period, so they may not wear the institution’s jersey again with only three matchdays left before the end of the regular phase and a transfer window in sight.

What set off this bombshell? According to what has emerged, the conflict is not only about poor results, but also about a fierce internal rift:

Internal disagreements: The players reportedly raised concerns over decisions made by the board and interim coach Gerardo “Toro” Acuña.
The sporting trigger: El León is bottom of both the relegation-average table and the overall standings with just 5 points. The threat of relegation is already tightening around the Córdoba team’s neck.
