Arsenal claimed an important 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur yesterday to re-establish their Premier League title credentials.
The Gunners made light work of their injury-riddled rivals and pushed them further into the relegation battle for good measure.
Arsenal desperately needed three points after some poor results in recent games, and Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres stepped up.
Mikel Arteta’s side sparkled from the first minute. Players who came on from the bench helped the cause immensely, especially Cristhian Mosquera.
Mosquera replaced right-back Jurrien Timber and locked down the flank with authority, dealing with Djed Spence and Xavi Simons.
Mosquera won all five of his tackles and made two clearances. He completed 8/10 of his passes and played one key pass.
The Telegraph’s Sam Dean described Mosquera as ‘one of Arsenal’s best deals in a long, long time’.
Mosquera may have to bide his time behind Willima Saliba and Gabriel, but that should not be viewed as a limitation. It is the perfect environment for his growth.
Learning alongside two established, elite-level centre-backs while gaining opportunities in high-pressure matches is exactly how a future star is moulded.
At just £13 million, Arsenal may have secured their long-term defensive pillar.
Mosquera has the athleticism, composure and defensive aggression Arteta demands. He is the ideal back-up today, but he could be indispensable tomorrow.
If he continues on this trajectory, Arsenal will have a world-class centre-back on their hands, one capable of serving the club for years to come.
