Matchwinner Cristian Calderón insisted that there no special reason why Chivas managed to beat Cruz Azul 1-0 on Saturday in the wake of Marcelo Michel Leaño’s sacking.
Leaño was relieved of his duties following the midweek defeat to Monterrey which left the Flock in serious danger of missing out on the Clausura play-offs.
Ricardo Cadena has been installed as interim manager, but Calderón didn’t wish to attribute the success at the Estadio Azteca to anyone in particular.
“I think nothing has changed,” the 24-year-old said , per TUDN.
“The team is the same we have worked the same way, as we had been doing with the previous coaching staff.
“The only thing that has changed is in the technical direction. The truth is that we have not had time to work, we had a game in the middle of the week and another game today.
“We haven’t had a chance to work, but the team is the same, nothing has changed, we continue along the same lines and it has been reflected.”
Calderón’s 58th-minute header proved the difference between the sides, and Los Rojiblancos managed to defend that lead despite playing the last 20 minutes with 10 men following the dismissal of Alexis Vega.
The win moves Chivas up to 11th, with games against Tijuana, Pumas and Necaxa left to decide if they can remain in a position to progress to La Liguilla.
