Cristian "Cuti" Romero was unveiled by Atlético de Madrid on Saturday after an agreement with Tottenham, signing a contract until 30 June 2031.
According to SuperDepor.com, Atlético marked the announcement with images of the Córdoba-born centre-back posing with the Argentine flag on club channels, accompanied by the single-word caption "Representando".
The gesture quickly resonated with the club's Argentine following, which has grown during Diego Simeone's long tenure and the presence of national team players.
The transfer was for a fee close to €40m including add-ons, after several windows in which Atlético had tried to sign him.
The 28-year-old had his first day at Cerro del Espino on Saturday, beginning individual fitness work after linking up with the squad.
Romero said his playing style fits Atlético's identity and noted that the presence of several Argentina team-mates was a factor in his choice.
He will share a dressing room with Julián Álvarez and Giuliano Simeone among others, working under fellow Argentine Diego Simeone.
The World Cup winner arrives after five seasons at Tottenham, where he played more than 150 games, wore the armband and won the 2025 Europa League.
He has become one of Atlético's main reinforcements for the 2026/27 campaign.
