Cristian on struggles in second Corinthians spell: "Not the club's fault"

Cristian was one of the great names of Corinthians in the first decade of the century, with titles in the Paulistão and the Copa do Brasil. Despite his return in 2015, with the Brasileirão title, the stint was exhausting for the former midfielder, who faced personal problems during that period.

“Man, but in reality, my time at Corinthians was very exhausting. But then I don't blame the club or anyone. It was much more personal, you know? I started discovering a lot of things. It's because, you see, a football player has a normal life, just like everyone else. You have… You get there, you have bills to pay, a lot of things to deal with.“, said Cristian to Central do Timão.

“And a lot of things happen because of that which leave us… Like scams, and who knows what else. And then I can't really blame Corinthians or some people for that, right? Because I was already… I've never been one to talk about these things much, because I think it's nobody's business. But it affected me a lot, you know? I also got injured a lot”, he added.

Known for his on-field demeanor, Cristian reached his peak at Timão between 2008 and 2009, when he won the Série B, Paulistão, and Copa do Brasil, being crucial in all three titles. After standing out, he moved to Fenerbahçe in Turkey, where he stayed for about five years.

In his second stint, the former midfielder played 100 matches with the Corinthians jersey, winning four titles: Brasileirão Série B, Paulistão 2009, Copa do Brasil 2009, and Brasileirão Série A 2015. Additionally, he scored ten goals, with a memorable one against São Paulo in the 2009 state championship semifinal.
