Cristian Volpato has been arrested by police in Sydney for speeding, and his driving licence has been suspended for six months. The Sassuolo attacking midfielder previously played for Roma.

The Guardian reports that Volpato also returned a positive cocaine test after the stop, and that police took a second saliva sample for laboratory analysis.

He had received a separate speeding ticket only hours earlier. He was later pulled over on a bridge while driving a BMW coupé at 109 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

He also underwent a breath test. Inquiries are ongoing.

Volpato, at Sassuolo since 2023, made four appearances at the World Cup with Australia. They were knocked out in the round of 32 by Egypt, 1-1, 2-4 on penalties.
